The Association of State & Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is a national nonprofit organization representing public health agencies in the United States, its territories, and freely associated states. Founded in 1942, ASTHO serves as the primary voice for state and territorial public health agencies and helps to formulate and influence sound public health policy. ASTHO’s membership consists of chief health officials from all 50 U.S. states, five U.S. territories, and three freely associated states. The organization works to track, evaluate, and advise on public health legislation, regulations, and policies at federal and state levels. It provides leadership development, capacity building, and technical assistance to state health officials and their agencies.
