Casa Navarro State Historic Site is a historic property and museum located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The site preserves the former residence of José Antonio Navarro (1795-1871), a prominent Mexican-Texan statesman, rancher, and merchant who was one of only two native-born Texans to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. The property consists of three limestone and adobe structures built in the 1850s: a two-story house, a one-story kitchen building, and a two-story store and office building. The buildings represent a traditional Mexican architectural style and are among the few remaining examples of early San Antonio adobe architecture. The site was designated as a Texas State Historic Landmark in 1962 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The Texas Historical Commission currently operates and maintains the property as a historic site museum. Visitors can explore the restored buildings, which feature period furnishings and exhibits detailing Navarro’s life, his contribution to Texas history, and the Mexican-American experience in 19th-century Texas. The museum offers guided tours, educational programs, and special events throughout the year. Located at the corner of South Laredo and West Nueva streets, Casa Navarro serves as an important cultural and historical landmark in San Antonio’s historic Old Mexican Quarter.
