College Advising Corps (CAC) is a non-profit organization that works to increase the number of underrepresented and low-income students who attend and complete higher education. Founded in 2005, CAC partners with universities across the United States to place well-trained near-peer advisers in high schools to provide free college advising services to students. CAC advisers are recent college graduates who receive training and ongoing professional development to provide personalized guidance on college selection, application and admission processes, financial aid, and scholarships. Advisers in the program serve for two years, working full-time during the academic year to support students in navigating the complexities of the college admissions process. Since its founding, CAC has grown to serve over 700 high schools in 16 states, working with more than 300,000 students every year. The organization has helped thousands of students apply to and enroll in colleges and universities, and has been successful in increasing college access and success rates for underrepresented and low-income students. In addition to providing individual support to students, CAC works to promote systemic change in the education system by advocating for policies that support college access and success for all students. CAC’s mission is to provide equal access to education for all students regardless of their socioeconomic background, and to build a future where every student has an opportunity to succeed.
