eegee’s is a regional fast-food restaurant chain based in Tucson, Arizona, founded in 1971 by Ed Irving and Bob Greenberg. The company is best known for its signature frozen fruit drinks called “eegees,” which are a cross between a slush and a smoothie. The name “eegee’s” comes from the initials of its founders’ first names. The restaurant chain began as a vending truck operation selling frozen lemonade around local schools and sporting events. In 1975, eegee’s opened its first brick-and-mortar location in Tucson. The company has since expanded to multiple locations across Southern Arizona and, more recently, into the Phoenix metropolitan area. eegee’s menu features submarine sandwiches, french fries, and their namesake frozen drinks, which come in standard flavors like lemon, strawberry, and piña colada, along with a rotating “Flavor of the Month.” The restaurant is particularly known for its ranch fries, crinkle-cut fries topped with their proprietary ranch dressing. In 2006, the company was sold to CEO Foods, and in 2018, 39 North Capital and Kitchen Fund acquired the chain. Under new ownership, eegee’s has pursued expansion beyond its traditional Tucson market while maintaining its local character and signature products.
