The Fox Valley Park District (FVPD) is a public park district serving Aurora, Illinois, and surrounding communities in Kane County. Established in 1947, it is the second-largest park district in Illinois, managing over 2,500 acres of parkland and 48 miles of inter-connected regional trails. The district maintains approximately 168 parks and facilities, including two aquatic centers, the Blackberry Farm historical village, the Prisco Community Center, and the Vaughan Athletic Center. The district provides recreational programs and services to a population of more than 233,000 residents across Aurora, Montgomery, and North Aurora. FVPD offers a wide range of recreational activities, including sports leagues, fitness programs, educational classes, and special events throughout the year. The organization is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and operates through tax revenue and program fees. Notable facilities within the district include the Stuart Sports Complex, one of the largest athletic field complexes in Illinois, and the Red Oak Nature Center, which provides environmental education programs. The district has received numerous awards for its parks and programs, including the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management from the National Recreation and Park Association.
