Garland Independent School District (GISD) is a public school district located in Garland, Texas. The district serves residents of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse. GISD was founded in 1901 and consists of 71 campuses including 45 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, 7 high schools, 2 alternative education schools and a visual and performing arts magnet school. The district provides education to over 57,000 students and employs over 7,000 staff. GISD is governed by a board of trustees consisting of seven members elected at large for three-year terms. The district’s primary mission is to provide opportunities for all students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in a rapidly changing technological society. GISD has a reputation for academic excellence and provides a diverse range of programs, including Advanced Placement, dual credit, career and technical education, and a renowned athletics program.
