Gift of Life Donor Program is the largest organ procurement organization (OPO) in the United States, serving eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware. Established in 1974, the organization coordinates life-saving organ and tissue donation across a network of 128 acute care hospitals and 15 transplant centers. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gift of Life works as the critical link between organ donors and transplant recipients. Gift of Life has coordinated more organ donors than any other OPO in the United States for over a decade. They manage a 24/7 call center and maintain specialized teams of clinical professionals who work with hospital staff to facilitate the donation process. Beyond organ procurement, Gift of Life operates several support programs, including a Family House that provides temporary lodging for transplant patients and their families. The organization also conducts extensive public education campaigns about organ donation and maintains the region’s organ and tissue donor registry in partnership with state departments of motor vehicles.
