Lodgian was a hotel management and ownership company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1994, the company operated as a real estate investment trust (REIT) specializing in the hospitality sector. At its peak, Lodgian owned and managed numerous hotels across the United States, primarily operating under well-known franchise brands such as Marriott, Holiday Inn, and Hilton. The company was publicly traded on the NYSE American (formerly AMEX) under the ticker symbol LGN. Throughout its operational history, Lodgian focused on acquiring, renovating, and managing full-service and select-service hotels in secondary and tertiary markets across the United States. In 2010, Lodgian was acquired by Lone Star Funds in a transaction valued at approximately $270 million. At the time of acquisition, the company owned 34 hotels containing 5,748 rooms across 18 states. Following the acquisition, Lodgian was taken private and ceased trading on the public markets. During its active years, Lodgian faced various challenges including industry downturns, particularly following the September 11, 2001 attacks and the 2008 financial crisis. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2001 and successfully emerged from reorganization in 2002.
