The Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) is a public educational institution located in Long Beach, California. Established in 1885, the LBUSD serves a diverse student population of over 70,000 students ranging from preschool to high school. The district operates 83 schools, including 40 elementary schools, 16 middle schools, and 11 high schools. In addition to traditional schools, LBUSD also offer alternative schools, early education centers, and a continuation high school. The district’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and rigorous learning environment for all students to achieve their fullest potential. LBUSD strives to provide students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for college, career, and life. The curriculum is designed to provide students with core academic knowledge and skills while also promoting critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. LBUSD is governed by a Board of Education consisting of five elected members. The district is led by a Superintendent, who oversees a team of administrators and staff members. LBUSD has received numerous accolades for its academic excellence and student achievements, including the distinction of being named a California Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon School. The district has also implemented various initiatives to promote equity and address the achievement gap, including the “Long Beach College Promise” program, which provides free college tuition and support to LBUSD graduates who attend Long Beach City College or California State University, Long Beach.
