The agency’s mission is to promote and provide quality outdoor recreational and cultural opportunities for all county residents and visitors, while protecting and preserving natural resources and historical sites. The MNCPPC manages over 52,000 acres of parkland, including more than 420 parks, 300 miles of trails, and numerous athletic fields, playgrounds, and community centers. They offer a wide range of recreational programming and amenities including swimming pools, golf courses, ice rinks, and equestrian centers. Additionally, the MNCPPC preserves and maintains over 50 historic sites throughout the two counties, including museums, gardens, and historic houses. The agency is governed by a twelve-member board of commissioners appointed by the county executives of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. The Executive Director oversees a staff of over 700 full-time and seasonal employees and a budget of over $285 million. The MNCPPC is committed to providing accessible, safe and affordable recreational opportunities for the diverse residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, while preserving and protecting the region’s natural and cultural resources for future generations.
