Merisel was a technology distribution company founded in 1980 and was once one of the largest wholesale distributors of computer hardware, software, and peripherals in North America. The company operated as a middleman between manufacturers and resellers, providing logistics, marketing, and distribution services. In its peak during the 1990s, Merisel was among the top three technology distributors in the United States, alongside Ingram Micro and Tech Data. The company underwent significant changes in the late 1990s and early 2000s, shifting its focus to digital imaging and visual content management services. This transformation included the acquisition of several companies in the color imaging and prepress industries. Merisel became known for providing color imaging services, digital asset management, and creative production services to advertising agencies, retailers, and corporations. In 2011, Merisel was acquired by Saints Capital, a private equity firm. The company continued to operate under the Merisel name until 2015 when it was acquired by Aperion Management and subsequently merged with other entities in the visual content and creative production space. Throughout its history, Merisel adapted to changing market conditions, transitioning from a pure technology distributor to a specialized digital imaging and content management service provider.
