Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort is a gaming and entertainment complex located in New Cumberland, West Virginia. Established in 1951 as Waterford Park, the facility originally operated solely as a thoroughbred horse racing track. In 1994, it was renamed Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort after being authorized to add video lottery terminals. The property features a full-service casino with approximately 1,200 slot machines, table games, and a poker room. The thoroughbred racing facility includes a one-mile dirt track that operates year-round, making it one of the few tracks in North America to conduct live racing in all four seasons. The resort component consists of a hotel with over 350 rooms, multiple dining venues, a spa, and an 18-hole golf course called The Woodview Golf Course. In 2019, Mountaineer was acquired by Century Casinos, Inc. in a deal worth $107 million. The property employs hundreds of local residents and contributes significantly to the regional economy through gaming taxes and tourism. The facility also hosts various entertainment events throughout the year and provides simulcast racing from tracks across the United States. The resort’s location near the Ohio River and proximity to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, makes it accessible to visitors from multiple states.
