National Industries for the Blind (NIB), established in 1938, is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that creates employment opportunities for people who are blind. As the largest employment resource for people with visual impairments in the United States, NIB works in partnership with a network of associated nonprofit agencies and operates under the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act (now known as the AbilityOne Program). NIB and its associated agencies serve as suppliers to the U.S. federal government and commercial customers, producing a wide range of products and services. These include office supplies, cleaning products, military equipment, and professional services. The organization manages the SKILCRAFT® brand, which is known for products made by people who are blind. The organization provides training and professional development programs through its NIB Business Leaders Program, which helps blind individuals advance into management positions. NIB also operates NIB CareersWithVision.org, a job board specifically designed for people who are blind or visually impaired. NIB’s headquarters is located in Alexandria, Virginia, and it works with approximately 100 associated nonprofit agencies across the United States. The organization has been instrumental in creating thousands of jobs and continues to advocate for economic opportunities and independence for people who are blind.
