The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is a non-profit, independent biomedical research institute located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Established in 1946, the organization’s mission is to conduct research to better understand and deal with human disease while training future generations of scientists. OMRF develops and conducts more than 800 research projects a year, primarily in the fields of cancer, Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular diseases, lupus and other autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and diseases related to aging. It has 19 nationally and internationally recognized research departments that work together across disciplines to develop new treatments, drugs, and diagnostic tools. OMRF employs over 500 staff, including over 50 principal investigators, and in partnership with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, it trains approximately 75 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students annually. OMRF collaborates with other research institutions, academic organizations, and biotech/pharmaceutical companies worldwide to advance scientific discovery. OMRF’s discoveries and scientific advances have the potential to impact human health around the world. Some notable breakthroughs achieved by OMRF scientists include developing the first chimeric anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody to treat certain blood cancers and the discovery of a genetic variation associated with a higher risk of developing lupus.
