Founded in 1947 as Villa Julie College, it was renamed to Stevenson University in 2008 in honor of its key benefactors, local real estate developers, and philanthropists. Its athletics teams, known as the Stevenson Mustangs, compete in NCAA Division III and in the MAC Commonwealth.
