Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) is a public land-grant university located in Kingsville, Texas. Established in 1925 as South Texas State Teachers College, it became part of the Texas A&M University System in 1989. The university serves South Texas and is the oldest continuously operating public institution of higher learning in the region. The university offers over 60 undergraduate programs, more than 40 graduate programs, and several doctoral degrees across its five academic colleges: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and Human Performance, and Engineering. TAMUK is particularly known for its engineering programs, especially in natural gas engineering, and its agricultural sciences curriculum. The institution has gained recognition for its Hispanic-serving status, with a significant portion of its student population being Hispanic/Latino. The university’s research activities focus on areas including sustainable energy, environmental engineering, wildlife science, and ranch management. Notable research facilities include the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and the National Natural Toxins Research Center. TAMUK’s campus spans approximately 1,600 acres and includes modern academic facilities, research centers, and student housing. The university’s athletic teams, known as the Javelinas, compete in NCAA Division II as members of the Lone Star Conference.
