The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is a premier research organization providing science and engineering expertise for the military and other agencies. The ERDC was formed in 1999 through the merger of two military engineering centers and has a long history of supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. ERDC’s mission is to conduct research and development in support of national security and civil works projects, including infrastructure development, environmental conservation, and disaster response. The organization is composed of seven laboratories that specialize in different areas of research: Geotechnical and Structures, Information Technology, Environmental, Engineering and Construction, Cold Regions, Military Engineering, and Coastal and Hydraulics. ERDC has a staff of over 2,500 researchers, engineers, and support personnel all working together to advance the nation’s capability to address complex engineering and environmental challenges. The ERDC has received numerous awards for their innovative work, including two prestigious Department of Defense labs of the year award and the 2012 Outstanding Civilian Service Award from the U.S. Army.
