The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) is the congregational arm of Reform Judaism in North America, representing the largest Jewish denomination in the United States. Founded in 1873 as the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (UAHC), the organization adopted its current name in 2003. The URJ serves approximately 850 Reform congregations and more than 1.5 million Reform Jews across the United States and Canada. The organization provides resources, programming, and leadership development for Reform congregations and their members. It operates several major programs, including summer camps, the Religious Action Center (RAC) for social justice advocacy in Washington D.C., and youth programs through NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). The URJ also oversees the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), which trains Reform rabbis, cantors, and other Jewish professionals. The URJ is headquartered in New York City and maintains regional offices throughout North America. It publishes educational materials, prayer books, and other Jewish resources through its publishing arm, CCAR Press, in partnership with the Central Conference of American Rabbis. The organization advocates for progressive religious values, social justice, and maintains strong connections with the Reform Movement in Israel and worldwide Reform communities.
