Worldwide Restaurant Concepts, Inc. (formerly known as Sizzler International, Inc.) was a publicly traded restaurant company that operated and franchised casual dining establishments. The company was primarily known for operating the Sizzler steakhouse chain, which it acquired in 1967. Throughout its history, Worldwide Restaurant Concepts also owned and managed other restaurant brands including KFC franchises in Australia, Pat & Oscar’s restaurants, and the Australian-based seafood chain Fish Market. The company changed its name from Sizzler International to Worldwide Restaurant Concepts in 2002 to better reflect its diverse portfolio of restaurant brands and international presence. At its peak, the company operated hundreds of restaurants across multiple countries, with significant presence in the United States, Australia, and Asia. In 2005, Pacific Equity Partners, an Australian private equity firm, acquired Worldwide Restaurant Concepts in a deal valued at approximately $208 million. The acquisition led to the company being delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, where it had traded under the symbol “SZ.” Following the acquisition, the company’s various restaurant operations were restructured and some brands were sold off or operated separately under different ownership structures.
