The State of Idaho is a governmental entity located in the northwestern region of the United States. It is the 43rd state to be admitted to the Union and covers an area of approximately 83,570 square miles, making it the 14th largest state in the country. Idaho shares borders with the states of Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Canada’s British Columbia. As a state, Idaho operates under a democratic system of government with a governor serving as the chief executive. The current governor is Brad Little. The state legislature, known as the Idaho Legislature, consists of two chambers: the Senate with 35 members, and the House of Representatives with 70 members. Idaho’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and tourism. The state is well-known for its production of potatoes and is often referred to as the “Potato State.” Other significant agricultural products include dairy products, wheat, sugar beets, barley, and hops. The manufacturing sector in Idaho encompasses industries such as food processing, machinery manufacturing, wood products, and computer and electronic product manufacturing. Mining activities in the state primarily involve the extraction of minerals such as silver, phosphate rock, gold, lead, and zinc. Idaho boasts several natural attractions, including numerous mountains, rivers, lakes, and national parks. Notable landmarks within the state include the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Shoshone Falls, Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, and the Snake River.
